The IATA Training and Qualification Initiative (ITQI) aims to promote the growth of licensed staff in Flight Operations and Engineering fields while maintaining quality and safety standards. The project was launched in 2007 as a solution for the significant shortage expected to occur in emerging markets primarily in the long term.
The aviation industry continues to suffer from an industry-wide crisis that was initiated by the fuel price increase and continues with the global economic slowdown. As a result, airlines have to face increased pressure and are forced to reduce operational costs. However, there is still a need to implement global training and qualification standards.
Promoting new qualifications ensuring high safety and quality
Despite the changing industry, the ITQI strategy continues focusing on regional differences and short-term benefits. It is split into two major areas:
- Engineering & maintenance
- Flight operations
The following initiatives are critical in ensuring the required growth of training and qualification while maintaining the essential safety and quality standards:
- Harmonisation of national requirements and regulations for the entire recruitment process
- Certification standards for training providers
- Configuration standards for training devices for mechanics and pilots
- Standards for training concepts and syllabi
- Guidelines for staff selection and preparation
