Passenger and Airport Data Interchange Standards (PADIS)

The Passenger and Airport Data Interchange Standards (PADIS) Board was established to develop Electronic Data Interchange message standards and now also XML message standards for passenger travel and airport-related passenger service activities. The PADIS Board is governed by the Passenger Services Conference Resolution 783 and is mandated to develop and approve standard messages for EDIFACT and XML.

Sub-groups develop EDIFACT messages and XML schemas:

  • Reservations
  • Electronic Ticketing
  • Electronic Miscellaneous Documents
  • Airport Resource Management functional areas
  • Airport Handling processes
  • Data exchange between airlines and airports for operational and passenger data (using BCBP data)
  • Slot and scheduling messages according to SSIM
  • Data exchange between airlines and governments for passenger data requirements:
    • PNR DATA (PNR PUSH)
    • Advance Passenger Information (API/PAXLST)
    • APIS Quick Query (AQQ)

In addition, sub-groups develop data communication standards which are found in the Systems Communications and Reference volumes (SCR Volumes). TypeX, a new XML communications standard, is under development and handled by a separate sub-group.

Workgroup sessions

PADIS sessions maintain a unique structure. The individual groups for EDIFACT (Reservations and Airport services) and XMLWG (Electronic Ticketing, AHM, Schedules/slot) document business requirements according to needs in various areas.

The requirements are passed to a technical assessment group (TAG) which translates them into EDIFACT messages and XML schemas. The messages and schemas are then presented back to the group for clarification/modification. Once a message or schema has been finalised it is submitted to the PADIS Board for approval.

In addition, the PADIS Board has the capacity monitor the workplans of its sub-groups.

Release and Documentation of
Standards

The adopted standards by PADIS Board will be released twice per year, at most. The EDIFACT standard is published in three different manuals and available from the IATA Online store
